Hidden away in the Ölfusdalur valley is an absolute gem of a coffee house, Dalakaffi. There you can enjoy freshly made cakes and deliciously brewed coffee in the lovely countryside. It’s a great stop if you are hiking along the valley or bathing in the natural streams in Reykjadalur, or just exploring the region and want a great place to stop for refreshments. The views are stunning from Dalakaffi and the service is friendly and welcoming.
The coffee house is owned and run by Magnea Jónasdóttir, who is living on a farm with her family Ölfusdalur valley. She has excellent knowledge of the area and is a keen conservationist. The Icelandic countryside is a passion of hers, and she opened Dalakaffi to enhance visitor’s experience of the local area.
I visited Hveragerði last Saturday with my family and while heading upwards through the village we came across Dalakaffi in Ölfusdalur valley. There we enjoyed great scenery, absolutely the best coffee that day and nice, finger-licking appetisers served with style by the hostess, Magnea Jóhannsdóttir. Definitely the highlight of our day-trip to Hveragerði.
