Landmannalaugar Volcano Region sunna
Landmannalaugar is a region near the volcano Hekla in the southern part of Iceland’s highlands and is renowned for its stunning beauty. The area displays a number of unusual geological elements, like the multicoloured rhyolite mountains and expansive lava fields, with two popular mountains being Blahnjukur (Blue Peak) and Brennisteinsalda (Sulphur wave). There are geothermal nature baths there, a very popular attraction one should not miss. It is also the usual starting point for the four-day long hiking trail Laugavegur (not to be confused with Reykjavík’s main shopping street holding the same name), which leads to Thorsmork valley and is the most popular hiking trail in the country.
