MudShark tours is a local adventure and outdoors company that operates from Hella, South Iceland. It organises a range of tours for travellers in South Iceland, either tailor-made or prepackaged. It is an environmentally friendly company, and their aim is to provide ecotours that are adventurous, educational and environmentally sound. Their great selection of tours covers all major attractions in the South Iceland region and include short walking tours in Hella, surf-fishing tours on Iceland’s dramatic south coast, to all-day super jeep mountain tours, the classic Golden Circle tour, Landmannalaugar, Thorsmork and Northern Light tours.
Their signature tour is the surf-fishing tour where you’ll have the opportunity to catch Mudshark, hence the name of the company. Surf-fishing isn’t the regular thing to do in Iceland, but it has gained increased popularity in the last few years. The fishing spots are only a 20 minutes drive from Hella village. It is a unique experience to stand on the black volcanic beach hoping to catch a small shark!
If interested in freshwater fishing, you can try out their highland fishing tour, where you’ll get the opportunity to fish in our splendid highland lakes. The tour consists of sightseeing and storytelling along the way up to the mountains and about 3-5 hours of fishing for brown trout and/or arctic char after which you drop by Landmannalaugar for a short visit. You will be guided by an experienced Icelandic angler who will tell you all kinds of stories about the environment, farmers and fishermen. You will be provided with all necessary fishing gear.
All Mudshark tours are guided by Magnus, a Ph.D botanist and ecologist. He has excellent knowledge of the south region in Iceland and is more than happy to share his knowledge and answer any questions that might come to mind during your tour.
Magnus could not have been more helpful in advising us as to what we should see and do in and around Hella – his expertise and helpfulness went far beyond the expected and we had two wonderful days with him and Denny – nothing was too much trouble for them, their knowledge was excellent and they adapted to the fact that they were catering for teenagers, grandparents, scared travellers and adrenaline seekers! I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone.
